Dork Anthem
So I ran across this the other day on rpgcentric.com, and I’m not sure how to feel about it. Mostly, I think I’ve landed on thinking it’s fun. But there’s a part of me that feels slightly uncomfortable, like maybe they’re not so much laughing with us as at us.
I dunno. Maybe I’m just too used to geek culture being either the butt of mainstream jokes or completely co-opted by folks who wouldn’t have given it a second look before it became cool to nerd out.
Anyway, take a look and a listen and let me know what you think. Are we being mocked on some level, or are these guys truly fellow geeks?

I thought it was really funny. We dorks need to be able to laugh at ourselves.
Oh trust me, one quick look around this site proves we can laugh at ourselves
I think it’s coming from a sincere place, though I too am starting to feel wary of co-opting. Victims of our nerd success I suppose, we geeks should be proud that we’re now the cool kids!
answer: fellow geeks
This song is not meant to mock geeks/dorks/nerds so much as it is meant to empower them. Be proud of who you are as a person. Check out this recent clip from a tv interview regarding this song.

I. LOVED. This!!
“Baby, Yer hotter than a Bunson burner”?!? Freaking hilarious! I wanna start a new drinking game – a shot every time they say something that TOTALLY pertains to you. Anyone trashed by the end of the song is in “the gang”. The one who vomits first wins!
