J.J. Abrams Pilot Finds New Name and Actors

The past few days have been pretty informative in regards to the new J.J. Abrams/J.H. Wyman pilot setup at Fox. The pilot, recently titled Human, is set in a not-too-distant future where all LAPD officers are assigned highly evolved human-like androids as partners. The first news came out of Deadline, which reported that Friday Night Lights alumni Minka Kelly would be joining the pilot as Valerie Stahl, “a uniformed cop with a strong moral compass who believes the best of people.”

This story was then confirmed by TVLine the following day, and more information has been released since then. According to the most recent stories, not only is Kelly joining the show, but they also found their lead in Star Trek‘s Karl Urban. Urban will play John Kennex, “a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission left him critically injured. He is paired with Dorian, an android detective who, ironically, has a better grasp on humanity than he does.”

Whereas Kelly’s character will be a supporting playe, the pilot as it stands will center on the relationship between Urban’s John Kennex and the android Dorian, played by¬†Michael Ealy.

In addition to Kelly, Urban, and Ealy, previously announced members of the pilot’s cast include Lili Taylor, Michael Irby, and Mackenzie Crook.
