The Originals Fills Out Main Cast
News coming out of The CW recently has been a steady stream of casting stories for their upcoming series The Originals, the proposed spin-off of The Vampire Diaries. Recently Deadline broke two more casting stories, likely to be the last important roles in the series.
First is Charles Michael Davis, who will play Marcel, the character that the spin-off seems to revolve around. Marcel is described as, “Wicked, wild and charismatic, Marcel is a former kicked-around street rat who now calls the shots in the supernatural playground of New Orleans. As a modern-day vampire, he’s fierce and bold, able to accomplish as much with his charm as his is with his strength.” Early breakdowns of the show’s plot point to Klaus heading back down to New Orleans where he encounters Marcel, who is an old protege of Klaus.
The other actor cast is by no means a surprise. Claire Holt, the actress who plays Rebekah, will be appearing as a regular on the series. Although it was rumored that talks with the actress had stalled a bit, it seemed to make sense that the remaining Originals would all make the transition to the new series. Rebekah has strangely become one of my favorite characters on The Vampire Diaries, but I find it hard to imagine a scenario where any of the Originals could remain on The Vampire Diaries and have that show continue to be a creative success. Removing the Originals from the mother-ship could be the thing that helps The Vampire Diaries more than anything. If The Originals happens to be a good show on its own, then that’s just icing on the cake.
