Maria Hill May Appear in S.H.I.E.L.D. After All
By now everyone knows that ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. series is moving forward quickly, and will likely be seen on our TV sets later this year. The cast is set, the pilot is being shot, and in a recent interview actress Cobie Smulders hinted that she may be able to appear in the series as her Avengers character, Maria Hill. When asked about the chance that she would show up on the series in some form or another Smulders acknowledged that there had been definite talks along those lines. When asked about her availability she explained, “[My] commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it, and I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.”
Smulders is contracted to How I Met Your Mother for the ninth season, which will film in 2013/14, but is likely free after that. Her statement that How I Met Your Mother wouldn’t affect her availability likely means that she could turn up as a special guest star on occasion if S.H.I.E.L.D. could work around her HIMYM schedule. Toss in a few guest-starring episodes of the series and when her current obligations end she may be willing and able to jump on in a larger capacity.
This is all a pipe dream at this stage but one that seems more likely now than it did just a few weeks ago. Should ABC try to pull Smulders’ Maria Hill into the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV universe or leave her to the film side of the equation?

Hell yeah they should try and grab her. And I think she should try and be grabbed! I thought her Maria was Good in the movie, but underused. If Coleson is the calm, reserved guy, Maria is the fiery get it done type. It would be a nice transition out of sit com, and potential entrance into action hero or procedural type of work.
Definitely underused. Where better to explore Agents of SHIELD than a TV series named….SHIELD. Hopefully she makes the transition from HIMYM to SHIELD because she is awesome and deserves to keep working. On the other hand part of me thinks 90 year old Cobie Smulders will retire from acting after season 68 of HIMYM.
