Cast for The Originals Continues to Grow

It seems like in the last several weeks more and more information has been flowing out about The CW’s proposed spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals. This week it comes from a story broke by Deadline which announced the casting of Daniella Pineda in a series regular role. According to the article, Pineda will play a character named Sophie. Sophie is a witch, “whose magic has been silenced but not snuffed,” and who is described in very CW terms as, “a sexy, sharp-tongued social force, [who] is quietly sowing the seeds of a revolution amongst her peers.”
In addition to the casting of Pineda, the article also gave a little more insight into the general plot of the series. Before, the only information we had was that Klaus and the others would be heading down to New Orleans where Klaus would meet up with a former protégé of his, Marcel. Now we know a little about how Elijah, Klaus’ brother (Daniel Gillies) fits into the story. The article explains that Elijah follows Klaus down to New Orleans in order to help his brother find some sort of redemption for all of the villainous acts he has committed during the past several hundred years. This will cause Elijah to side with some of Klaus and Marcel’s enemies to see his goal through.
