The Future of Alphas Has Been Decided
In news that is disappointing but hardly unexpected, Deadline is reporting that Syfy has pulled the plug on Alphas. The series has run for two seasons on the network to strong critical opinion but weak ratings. After this recent season two premiered to only 1.75 million viewers, and ended with a mere 1.17 million, the writing seemed to be on the wall. That being said, up until now the network was unwilling to make any kind of official statement on the show’s future.
As part of the press release a spokesperson for the network explained, “Syfy has decided not to renew Alphas for a third season. We’ve been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creative […].”
Sadly, quality and popularity are often not aligned when it comes to entertainment. At the end of the day television is a business and with the ratings that Alphas received and no shot at meaningful awards to placate the network it seemed to never really stand a chance.

What a tragedy, it was a really good show.
I was a big fan. Made me sad…
