The CW Moves Forward With The Originals
According to a report on Deadline, The CW is finally moving forward with a plan it has been discussing for quite some time. Apparently, the network has decided to use an upcoming episode of The Vampire Diaries in an attempt to spin-off a new series called The Originals. The new series will star Joseph Morgan (Klaus) and the recently added Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), and will follow Klaus as he returns to New Orleans — the town he helped to build. When he arrives in New Orleans he will be reunited with a former protege named Marcel.
The episode serving as the backdoor pilot will be written by The Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec. Should the episode lead to a new series, Plec will serve as an Executive Producer on The Originals. Klaus seems to be overstaying his welcome on The Vampire Diaries, but with his own series that might make things more interesting for both the character and the original series. This backdoor pilot episode is scheduled to air April 25th.
