BioWare Beefs Up for New Mass Effect 3 DLC

Despite disappointing reviews for Omega (the latest DLC pack for Mass Effect 3), BioWare, is pushing ahead with more DLC packs, and this time they’re breaking out the big guns (metaphorically speaking).

Eurogamer is reporting that an 8-man team has been drafted to write the story for an as yet untitled DLC pack. If information hacked out of current DLC packs is to be believed, the new pack will take place on the Citadel. Given that similar leaks correctly guessed the setting for Omega and the previous DLC Leviathan, it’s probably a safe bet.

There’s no word yet regarding a release date which is unsurprising. Given that the writers (presumably) just started, and voice actors have just been called up to record audio, we may be waiting awhile. That being said, in the videogame industry writers are frequently among the last people to work on a game. All-too-frequently, writers are called in late in the development cycle to fill in the blanks between set pieces with a paper-thin plot.

Normally, I wouldn’t imply that BioWare is guilty of such practices, but Omega was not well-received. Eurogamer only scored it 4/10, and identified the story as particularly weak. I hate to be that guy, but I’m glad I didn’t get too worked-up about Omega when it was released.

All told, I’m afraid BioWare faces an uphill battle for my affections. I’m sure they’ll be brokenhearted to hear that.
