“This should have been in the actual game.”

“Please don’t be DLC! I don’t want to re-buy ME3 again!”

“Take my money! ALL OF IT!!!!”

That’s just a small selection of the comments on EA’s Youtube page for the newest DLC pack for Mass Effect 3 – Omega. I include them not only to remind you of the complete inability of Youtube commenters to agree on anything, but also because they seem like a fairly accurate cross-section of how the Mass Effect fanbase reacts to the continuing release of DLC for their game.

Set, obviously enough, prior to the game’s end, Omega sees Commander Shepard team up with Aria T’Loak, the vicious crime lord who rules over the hive of scum and villainy that is Omega.

Cerberus is up to their usual tricks, and have occupied the station for reasons unknown as yet. It’s up to Commander Shepard to lead the fight to send them on their merry way.

As is typical, the trailer is all cut-scene footage, so it’s hard to tell if you’ll actually be controlling Aria at any point or if she’ll just drop in and out of the story as required. Putting that aside, however, what may be the most interesting feature to this DLC pack is the character called Nyreen Kandros, the first in-game female Turian. Despite the game’s lore banging on about how meritocratic the Turians are and how they don’t suffer from sexism, this will be the first time a female Turian has made an appearance. Presumably, going to the trouble of adding in a character model for each sex was judged too expensive or time-consuming until now. Not that we’ll see any more female Turians throughout the game. Give the fans something they really want? That would just be crazy.

Omega is available now for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
