S.H.I.E.L.D. Cast Expands Further
As we’ve reported here at GFBRobot over the past several months, ABC is currently developing a Marvel Universe TV show based on the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization that was introduced decades ago in the comics and portrayed recently in the Marvel movies. This week The Hollywood Reporter announced that the Joss Whedon helmed series added two more actors to its expanding cast.
Elizabeth Henstridge will play science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons, and Iain De Caestecker was cast as Agent Leo Fitz. In the character breakdown circuilated last month these roles were described as two characters who came up through training together. They have a sibling-like relationship reinforced by similar personalities, with both having very “nerdy” dispositions. Agent Gemma Simmons is a biologist and chemist, where Agent Leo Fitz is an expert with the technical side of weaponry.
What are your thoughts on the casting? I find it interesting that we’ve been getting relative unknowns cast in these roles when many people hoped that Whedon alums would be cast. I think it’s important to remember that people like Charisma Carpenter, Amy Acker, Summer Glau, Nicholas Brendon, and many of our other Whedon favorites were also unknowns before working for him.
