Variant: Announcing the GeekInsight Game of the Year!

The final five have been announced, and now it’s time to make a decision on the game of the year. It was incredibly difficult just coming up with a top five and picking one game from that subset was challenging. But, ultimately, the GeekInsight committee for game selection, consisting entirely of myself, came to a unanimous conclusion.

Dungeon Lords! Yes, the game is a little older, though it is still “new to me.” Dungeon Lord is an amazing worker placement game that nevertheless has strong theme and incredible replay value. The theme is just silly enough without being obnoxious. The gameplay divorces any notion that Dungeon Lords isn’t serious business.
Plus, to paraphrase a friend of mine, Dungeon Lords is a game I’ll have in my collection for as long as I’m playing games. Other acquisitions, even potentially the innovative euros also in the top five, tend to eventually fall out of favor. Dungeon Lords, though, has heavy player interaction in a way that doesn’t include any “take that” element. This game just may be the pinnacle of worker placement.

@Ben you are correct. I haven’t played everything of his (like Travel Blog or Bunny Bunny Moose Moose), but all of his heavier games have been fantastic.
