Blue World Order Indiegogo: Australian Sci-Fi movie needs you!
I’m going to stray a little out of my jurisdiction today, and instead of talking about comic books, I’m going to bring an indie sci-fi feature film to your attention. Out of Australia, the movie will be called Blue World Order, and the production team wants you to help fund their flick through Indiegogo.
So why do I, the comic book guy, want to talk movies all of a sudden? Well, I’ll level with you. I want you to know about Blue World Order for a couple reasons. The first reason I’ll phrase as a question.
When was the last time you watched a kick-ass movie out of Australia? I mean a movie written, directed and produced by Australians, and it was a kick-ass flick?
A couple months ago, while I was working on my Killeroo submission, I was watching the Mad Max movies. I said to myself (and everyone else that would listen) “Australia just doesn’t make great movies like these anymore.” And almost like they were reading my mind, Blue World Order came out of the woodwork. This is a polar opposite from the gritty crime-dramas and quirky comedies-with-heart that we normally dump on the US shores. Put simply, Blue World Order looks to be a whole pile of aweasome-sauce for sci-fi nerds and geeks like you and me.
Blue World Order tells the tale of a post-apocalyptic world where the Northern Hemisphere has been blown to shit in a nuclear war. The survivors in the southern hemisphere have become desperate and violent, and they compete for resources as society crumbles. Not to mention an infectious virus was released that threatens the lives of every survivor on the planet. A self-appointed government calling themselves ’The ORDER’ rose to take advantage of the chaos and distribute an immunisation via a massive EMP. Unfortunately, the side effect of the EMP was that it killed all the children. And, unknown to the general survivors, the Order also delivered a bio-tech virus through the EMP, giving them the power control the population.
There is one man immune to the mind controlling bio-tech virus: Jake Slater. And only one child has survived the EMP, his daughter Molly.
Jake needs answers. Why is he immune? Why is Molly in a coma? So Jake scavenges the wasteland in an effort to keep his daughter alive, but he doesn’t know she is the last child on Earth and, quite possibly, the key to the survival of mankind.
Sounds cool, yeah? Real sci-fi.
The second reason I want you to know about Blue World Order? It’s being shot in my home city, Canberra. The Blue World Order production team are a bunch of the nicest people you could ever meet, and have worked locally, nationally and internationally in the film industry for years.
Collectively, Blue World Order can claim production design and visual effects for blockbusters including 28 Weeks Later, 300 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and are involved with bringing fan-boy (and girl) icons like the recently wrapped Wolverine, The Hobbit, The Avengers and Harry Potter to the big screen in coming months and previous years.
The production team of Dallas Bland, Ché Baker, Christian Doran and Sarah Mason are sci-fi nerds/action flick fanatics just like us. They’re our people, folks, and Blue World Order is a sci-fi flick by sci-fi fans for sci-fi fans.
So what does Blue World Order need from you?
Well, Blue World Order needs you to pledge your spare change. With the ambitious goal of raising AU$100,000 by Christmas 2012, any donation would be greatly appreciated. I understand times are hard and it’s not easy to pledge to every Kickstarter you’d like to (trust me, I understand), so if you can’t spare the change, just head over and “like” the Blue World Order Facebook Page and spread the word. if you can’t help financially, maybe the next guy could.
So, to sum up why you should pledge towards (or tweet/share) Blue World Order: sci-fi flick made by fans for fans. Extremely talented and experienced crew who have worked on many of our favorite sci-fi, fantasy, and superhero flicks and are the coolest and nicest people to boot.
Okay, quit your belly-aching about Star Wars and get on board, yeah? Check out the Blue World Order Indiegogo campaign and the Blue World Order website and the Blue World Order Facebook Page for all the information you could want on the project.
Not sold? Well, take a look at the Blue World Order trailer.
Help a bunch of awesome Aussies make a kick-ass flick the likes you wanna see.
