Ratings Success Leads to Pick-up for Arrow

It has been good news all over for fans of The CW’s Arrow. First is the obvious fact that the show has lived up to any standard of quality one could have held it to. The second, and most important for the network, is that the series has been a huge ratings success. Arrow’s pilot debuted to a total of 4.02 million viewers with a 1.3 in the demo. That made it The CW’s most watched episode of any series in three years, and the highest rated drama debut since Nikita’s pilot aired in 2010. The pilot’s high was also reinforced by only a marginal dip of 15 percent (to 3.5 million) in the series’ subsequent episode.

All of these factors led to The CW’s decision, per TVLine‘s announcement, that the series was getting picked up for a full 22-episode season. This means that after the winter hiatus we will have plenty more Arrow awaiting us in the first part of 2013. Also, with numbers like these, it would take a large swing in the opposite direct for the show to not be greeted with a second season pickup in the near future.

Wow, that was fast. I figured Arrow would get the go-ahead on a full season, but not after just a couple episodes. I have a lot of friends that work with me at DISH that were fans of Smallville, so most of us were sad about Hartley not playing Queen in the series. Either way, the show has enough action to keep me watching. It’s been added to my DVR list, along with my other dozen shows for this TV season. I’m just happy that I have a DISH Hopper that has plenty of recording space. I won’t have to pick and choose which shows to start watching like I have in the past.

Good to hear! I’ve been quite enjoying it myself.

The current Oliver is kicking the living crap out of any attempt Hartley may have made to present the character. And I say that as someone who felt Hartley was the only consistently watchable part of Smallville.
