Comic Book Review: DC Universe Presents #13

I really don’t have much to say about DC Universe Presents #13 out of… you guessed it, DC Comics.

Blue Devil has been a favorite of mine since childhood, and when I heard that he was going to turn up in the post-New-52 universe of DC? Yeah, I was a little excited. But I had one question: are they going to go with the original, superheroic, weirdness magnet version of Blue Devil, or the honest to goodness, demonic heir to the throne?

After reading this issue, I honestly don’t know.

But having said that, DC Universe Presents #13 is a great comic in every sense of the word.

What we get in DC Universe Presents #13 is the debut of not one, but two heroes into the DCnU: Black Lightning and Blue Devil!

Written by Marc Andreyko with stunning art by Robson Rocha and an awesome cover by Ryan Sook, DC Universe Presents #13 does superheroes right. Awesome powers and colorful, larger than life costumes? Check! Bad-ass street thugs dealing illegal drugs and/or weapons? Check! Criminal mastermind behind the actions of said street thugs? Check! Obligatory, misunderstood hero vs. hero slugfest? Check!

There isn’t really much more to say. I don’t want to talk character and plot, because I think you need to come in cold, like I did. This is a fun comic that promises to be quite the roller coaster ride.

My hopes for this comic is that the next six issues sell so well, that the powers that be have no choice but to spin it off into its own, mismatched, buddy cop, superhero comic.

If you like superheros, or just good comic in general, go and pick up a copy of DC Universe Presents #13. The story is compelling, the art is incredible, the characters are fun.
