Terraria Comes to Consoles
Terraria, the 2D sandbox, mining, and combat game (and my 2011 game of the year) is coming to consoles in the near future.
A post on the game’s official Facebook page confirms that Xbox and Ps3 versions are coming soon and will include new content, not seen in the PC version.
The console versions will not be developed by Andrew “Redigit” Sparks, the game’s creator. Instead they will be ported across by 505 Games, makers of the ArmA and Sniper Elite game series, who are also creating the new content. The console versions are planned for release next year.
Exactly what that content is remains to be seen, as it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out, given that Sparks stopped development of the PC version of Terraria a few months back, leaving the game’s future in doubt.
Being the selfish bugger that I am, I’d much rather see development of the PC version taken up by another company. Gaslamp Games, makers of Dungeons of Dredmor, tweeted a offer to do so back in February, but nothing seems to have come of it yet.
