The Fall TV season began recently ,and the news for projects in production is still going strong. Deadline recently announced that ABC has reached a script commitment deal with penalty for a series currently titled Chosen. Chosen is a drama from writer John August, described as a “unique tale of family struggle, teen romance and California evil.” According to the synopsis, the story will focus on how life changes for a family when their young daughter is identified as the reincarnated prophet of a mysterious South American religion. A central question of the series will be whether the girl is truly this reincarnation, or if the whole thing is part of some larger hoax or mystery.

What makes this more interesting is the fact that Josh Friedman is currently attached as an executive producer. According to Friedman, he will be brought on as showrunner should the series be picked up. Until then he will help to develop but the script will be very much John August’s. This is the second script deal Friedman is attached to for next pilot season.
