Thanos Down for the Count as Morbius Resurges Triumphant
I’ve been in a perpetual state of salavating at the news of a new comic focusing on Thanos by Joe Keatinge and Rich Elson.
So imagine my surprise when I read about an announcement from Fan Expo Canada‘s Spider-Man panel, that Keatinge and Elson will be working on a new ongoing comic, Morbius: The Living Vampire.
But hang on. What’s happening with Thanos: Son of Titan? Well that comic will never be coming out (Whaaa…?!!). Marvel‘s cancelled it.
As disapointing as that is, I’m glad it’s being replaced with Morbius instead of yet another Avengers or X-Men comic. I’ve been a fan of Michael Morbius since his previous solo comic in 1992, and he is such a rich and unique villain (not unlike Thanos).
Morbius: The Living Vampire#1 hits comic shops in January. Pre-orders will begin in early November. I’m on board for this. Morbius has such a varied history, from tragic villain, to ruthless hero, to stalwart defender of mankind against zombie invasion. A good writer should be able to pull great stories from Morbius’ background. Plus he’s a vampire, and they’re so hot right now, yeah?
The 1992 series lasted 32 issues before being cancelled after constant creative team changes. The stories becoming more and more ludicrous with each change.
Hopefully Marvel learns from last time and helps this character shine with some consistency in talent and quality.
I’ll be keeping an eye on this story so I’ll let you know about any updates and opinions.

Vampires are hot and DC has “I, Vampire”, so of course Marvel needs to bring back their vampire book, right? And when “I, Vampire” ends up canceled so they can have yet another book tied to Batman, maybe Thanos.
Yeah, but I’ve gotten used to Morbius instead of Thanos. I think vampires are awesome when they’re vampires… if you follow me.
