Spartacus Boss Reveals Info on Follow-Up Series
As most of us know by now, the upcoming season of Starz’s Spartacus will be its last. Now we know what Spartacus showrunner and Whedonverse alum Steven S. DeKnight will be doing after the series wraps production.
According to The Huffington Post, DeKnight will be working with Starz again. This time the collaboration will be on a hard sci-fi series titled Incursion. The series will follow a group of soldiers in the middle of a war against an alien race and is described by DeKnight as “Blackhawk Down on another planet.”
Much like in Spartacus, this series will see a soft retooling each season when the surviving soldiers journey to and fight on a new planet every year. The show is currently being described as having “[g]rittily realistic combat, darkly complex characters and intrigue on a cosmic scale will permeate the tale of fighting men and women facing the pressures of war and an enemy unlike any ever seen.”
In an interview with IGN, DeKnight added that the series will include male and female soldiers fighting side by side and contain heterosexual as well as homosexual relationships, much like Spartacus. Where is it diverging from Spartacus is the filming style the series will use. In Spartacus, DeKnight and the crew shoot on green-screen, which gives the show its cartoonish violence and sense of camp. Incursion, on the other hand, will be filmed on location. This will help add to the gritty and realistic tone that the network and showrunner are shooting for.

I’m sold. And if they shoot in NZ again, I’ll bust my arse for an audition.
