Dr. Horrible Eyes 2013 TV Debut
Straight out of the recent San Diego Comic Con, Deadline is reporting that Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will make its television debut sometime next year. Although there is no specific information yet available as to the air date of the installments, apparently the news came from Whedon himself. During a panel at the convention for comic publisher Dark Horse, Whedon announced that The CW had obtained the rights to air Dr. Horrible and would do so sometime in 2013.
With news constantly circulating that a second movie/series/installment is in the works an announcement like this can only help bring the possibility closer to actuality. My only reservation at this point would be that Dr. Horrible should remain first run web content. Airing on TV does bring more eyes and a wider audience to the project, but what made it great and somewhat historic was how it used the emerging online entertainment sector and helped push it forward. I hope that Whedon and company keep that in mind as the Dr. Horrible sequel moves forward.
More information to come as air dates and further details become available.

Just one small point I’d like to discuss:
I disagree that airing on TV brings more eyes and a wider audience. Take into account the international following of Dr. Horrible.
Now think about all the great US TV programming that never reaches international shores, shows I’ve always wanted to watch but they never screen here. To the point that we have to 1. download the episodes or 2. wait for DVD release a year or two after the States watches the show.
I don’t know where I’m going with this, but I guess I’m saying airing on TV would expand the viewership in the States but not necessarily internationally.
I’m sorry. I know it was a minor part of the article.
My main thought/point is that different people view TV/internet content. Median ages of television viewers, even for shows that skew young are still in the 40-50 year old range. The people who saw Dr. Horrible first run on the internet (like me, and probably many of our readers) are likely well under this age range.
A television run of Dr. Horrible or any other web-only content expands the demo. Only a good thing
Okay, fair call. Didn’t mean to be a jerk or anything. Just trying to give an international viewpoint
