Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities are Back Thanks to Powell and Hotz
So you hated the latest big screen historical-horror Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (truth be told, I haven’t seen it myself, though I am interested) and you’re longing for a really cool monster mash-up starring a personage of historical significance. Am I right?
Well, Dark Horse Comics has what you’re looking for.
From the twisted and disturbed minds of Eric Powell and Kyle Hotz comes the third adventure of Billy the Kid and his freakish crew.
The world thought that Billy was shot dead at the hand of Pat Garrett. The world thought wrong. Billy is alive and well, travelling the world with Fineas Sproule’s spectacle of biological curiosities as their hired gun.
Billy and the freaks are out to rescue their lizard-skinned comrade Callahan from the wrath of Count Dracula and wind up at – you guessed it – Loch Ness.
On a personal note, Powell writes comics for me. I get his humor and he seems to be intent on not letting himself be trapped by comic book clichés. If you read The Goon, you know that his adventures against Hellboy, freakshow carnies, Criminal Macabre, and even Marvel and DC, and you’ll recognize his unique approach to funny books as well as his contempt for today’s idiot culture.
If not (why not?), Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities and the Orm of Loch Ness is a great starting point.
Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities and the Orm of Loch Ness is on sale October 17, 2012 at comic book shops around the globe.
