Falling Skies Announcement Hits Before Comic Con

There is excellent news coming out of San Diego for fans of TNT’s Falling Skies. Deadline has broken the news that in the lead-up to this year’s San Diego Comic Con the network has announced an order for a 10 episode third season of the series to air in 2013. The announcement unsurprisingly came in time for the large convention, where the show will be holding a panel. A season three pickup was not surprising, as the show averages 5.9 million viewers, which is a hefty sum for a cable show.

In a statement following the pickup announcement TNT’s president Michael Wright explained, “Falling Skies is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that’s told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level. […W]e can’t wait to see what DreamWorks Television and Falling Skies‘ terrific production team and cast members have in store for season three.”

Everytime I see an article on Falling Skies my gut gets tight and I panic that,Ike all other great Sci-Fi Fantasy shows, it’s been axed. This is good news to me.

Haha. Cancelling the show right before Comic Con would have been ballsy. That’s the type of thing you do 15 minutes after the panel is over :)
