Giveaway: Two Firefly/Serenity Challenge Coins, from the California Browncoats

I know what you’re thinking. “Wouldn’t it be great to have been in the war for independence depicted in Joss Whedon’s seminal masterpiece, Firefly? What fun accoutrements you would wind up with!” Well, you can’t go forward in time to learn Chinese and fire six-shooters with Captain Mal Reynolds and crew, but now you can front like you did at any bar in the ‘verse, thanks to the California Browncoats.

We’re thrilled to present not one, but TWO lucky people with the chance to win their own copy of the challenge coin of Mal’s unit during the Unification War, the 57th Overlanders, as imagined by a certain Mr. Adam Levermore (whose work MAY seem quite FAMILIAR to long-time friends of GFBR) and brought to life thanks to the aforementioned Browncoats. You may have questions! Here are answers!

Q: What’s a challenge coin?

A: Use it to make people pay for drinks. Or, you know, just carry around and look cool.

Q: What’s a California Browncoat?

A: The California Browncoats are a group of Firefly/Serenity fans who band together as a CA 501(c)3 non-profit to perform works of awesomeness in this sometimes less than awesome world of ours. I implore you to visit their site, learn about them, and support them if you see any of their various charity events occurring.

Q: Just show us the coin, fella!

A: Okay, okay, simmer down…

Aren’t they just extremely gorgeous? On one side, the red and black logo of the 57th Overlanders and on the other, some “stars and bars” that will stir the soul of any Independent-minded soul. The coins themselves are the size of a US fifty-cent piece, and as epic as they look in the picture, trust me: these suckers look even better in person.

Q: How do I get one?!

A: Hit up the California Browncoats booth at San Diego Comic Con this July 12-15 2012 to purchase one of these awesome pieces of kit for the low sum of $10. They only made a limited number of these, and with the price tag being at the “impulse-buy”-friendly sum of only ten smackeroos, I could easily see these going fast. Plus which, that $10 will help enable a great group of (non-profit) folks to keep helping others.

Q: Okay, but I believe there was talk of maybe winning one…

A: Indeed! I happened upon a couple of these beauties, and I’m passing that good fortune on to YOU! See below for details on how you can get your hands on what will probably be the hottest collectible to come out of SDCC this year.

Giant Fire Breathing Robot, in cooperation with the California Browncoats, is giving two lucky people the chance to win a “57th Overlanders” challenge coin, free of charge, via random drawing. GFBR will even pay the shipping for the lucky winners, so there’s quite literally nothing to lose here! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post before the contest ends and you’ll be given one entry to win one of these coins.

To earn another entry, hit up Twitter and tweet about the contest (again, before the contest’s end) using the hashtag #GFBrowncoatsCoin and the following link to this post: http://gfbrobot.com/2012/06/10/gfbrowncoatscoin/

Remember, to receive this second bonus entry, your tweet MUST have both the hashtag and the link to this post. It is totally okay, however, if your tweeting mechanism shortens the link (in fact I recommend it). Once the contest is over, we’ll gather all the folks who commented and throw out any duplicates. Then, we’ll gather all the folks who tweeted and throw out any duplicates on that side, as well. Then we’ll mash all the entries from both methods together, draw two separate winners, and that’s that! (If we draw your name twice, we’ll toss out the second one and draw someone else. The same person can’t win both coins…)

There’s some fine print, of course, so I’ve gone ahead and tucked that below. Read over it to make sure you’ve got the lay of the land, and then get to enterin’, pardners! Seriously: you can’t be a big damn hero without one of these coins!

Legal stuff and small print: From time to time, Giant Fire Breathing Robot may run contests or give away prizes. In this case, two (2) separate winners will be awarded one (1) “57th Overlanders” collectible challenge coin, courtesy of the California Browncoats. Contest ends at 11:59 PM Pacific time on Friday, June 22nd, 2012. Winners will be drawn at random from the entry methods listed above. Giant Fire Breathing Robot contributors and their family members are not eligible for our contests. Ever. This contest does not constitute an endorsement of the content or opinions of Giant Fire Breathing Robot by the California Browncoats organization, since we like to swear a lot and they’re a non-profit and all. Regardless of any posted rules, Giant Fire Breathing Robot reserves the right to change the rules of any contest, giveaway, or promotion at any time to prevent cheating or correct errors. If we think you’re gaming the system to gain an advantage over other entrants, we won’t hesitate to even up the odds, so play fair!

(And a very special thanks to friend of GFBR, Shawn Tutt)

This kind of thing is why you guys are so much better than the guys over at “Large Fire Breathing Robot.” Umm… This doesn’t count as a contribution, does it? It would suck if signing up for the contest were grounds for disqualification.

Now that’s one fancy challenge coin. The Franklin Mint can only dream of making such collectible items. I’ll be sure to get one next month. Actually, if the Browncoats had won, that would make really cool money
