Aliens: Colonial Marines Collector’s Edition Unveiled

Aliens.

No, not the meme. The movie Aliens, arguably the highpoint of a franchise which has been steadily ground down into near-obsolescence through a succession of mediocre sequels and terrible spin-offs.

Aside from the 1999 Aliens vs. Predator game for PC, Aliens really hasn’t been given the video game it deserves. Until Now.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is arriving on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in February of next year, with a version slated for WiiU at some indeterminate point in the future. It’s being developed by Gearbox Software, the brains behind the excellent Borderlands and its upcoming sequel.

Set between the events of Aliens and Alien 3 *shudder* you play as part of a Colonial Marine force sent to investigate LV 426 and board the USS Sulaco, in an attempt to determine exactly what happened to the original Marine detachment. Here’s a trailer to whet your appetite:

As is the way of such things, a Collector’s Edition of the game will be available, containing some rather tasty extras. There are quite a few of them and there are a couple of regional differences, so I’m going to be lazy here and just copy and paste direct from Gearbox’s website:

Now, few things tickle my geek button like in-jokes and self-referential humor. The inclusion of “Sonic Electronic Ball Breakers” and “Phase Plasma Rifles” got me on both counts. I’m not normally one to go gooey-eyed over a statuette/figurine/dust-collector, but that powerloader would look good on my computer desk. Just sayin’.

Anyway, the current price-tag is $99.99, so you’d better start squaring away your spare change if you fancy one of these. No price tag for the rest of the world, or word on who will be offering that limited edition pre-order content, but I’ll keep you posted as news develops.

Look at that, I managed to get all the way through without a “Game over man!” joke.
