Nearly three months ago it was announced that True Blood creator/showrunner Alan Ball would be stepping down in order to lead his new Cinemax series, Banshee. Now Deadline is reporting that Ball’s successor has been announced.

Mark Hudis, current co-executive producer on the show, will be promoted next year to run the series in Ball’s absence. The promotion comes as part of a new two-year deal Hudis recently signed with HBO that also includes incentives to develop new series for the company. The choice on HBO’s part seems fairly perfect. Not only did Hudis have involvement with the show last year and during this upcoming fifth season, but he has also been working closely with Ball for over a decade. During the late 90′s the two of them wrote together on multiple occasions and seem to have kept up the relationship over the years.

The show’s fifth season will begin airing June 10th and will be the last with Ball at its head. When the show begins production for season six Hudis will have the reigns.
