Supernatural Showrunner Shakeup

Big changes were announced recently for the CW’s flagship series Supernatural. The show, presently airing its seventh season, is currently being run by Executive Producers Robert Singer and Sera Gamble. Gamble took over the reins of the series beginning in season six, when the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, stepped down after his five season run. Now Deadline is reporting that Gamble will be stepping away from the show after the seventh season comes to a close to pursue other projects.

Not one to leave us out in the cold for long, the network was sure to couple to departure with the announcement of Gamble’s replacement. Jeremy Carver, the U.S. Being Human co-showrunner and former Supernatural EP, will be returning to run Supernatural in its eighth season with Singer. Carver was involved with the show in 2009 and 2010 but then left to work on Being Human with his wife Anna Fricke.

Although Supernatural has not actually received an official season eight pick-up, the announcement of Carver as Gamble’s replacement coupled with the high ratings (by CW standards) that the show receives all point to one eventual outcome: renewal.

Although I feel like this season has been a slight step up from season six, this show really hasn’t been great since Kripke left. I don’t think that Gamble has had a good vision for the show’s arc at all, so I’m not particularly sad to see her go.
