Show Creator Confirms Sherlock’s Return
Fans of BBC’s Sherlock received good news last week when series creator Steven Moffat made a statement on Twitter about the show’s future. Moffat tweeted, “Of course there’s going to be a third series-it was commissioned at the same time as the second. Gotcha!” This was then later reaffirmed by co-creator Mark Gatiss, also via Twitter.
Deadline‘s article on the story mentions that although they are looking to release series three sometime in 2013, there is no indication as to when filming will begin. Series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are currently busy on other projects, including Star Trek 2 and The Hobbit, respectively. There is actually no official statement that Cumberbatch or Freeman have signed on for series three. On the other hand, as stated by a UK rep for Cumberbatch, “I’m sure he would love to do a 3rd series. It’s very unlikely they would have Sherlock without Sherlock.”
The show just finished its second series run in the UK to a strong 8 million viewers. US fans will be able to see the show when it returns for series two in May. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to watch the show, it is currently available on Netflix’s instant streaming. I highly recommend it!
