What capable geek wouldn’t jump at this opportunity? Digitaltrends reports that famous British physicist, Stephen Hawking, posted an informal ad on his website last week stating that he will soon be looking for a new assistant. Applicants should have both computer and electronic knowledge, and be able to perform technical repair on his electric and computerized wheelchair.
Besides the demanding technical requirements of the position, the assistant will make travel arrangments for Professor Hawking, as well as traveling with him and preparing lecture materials, dealing with media, and speaking to large crowds. The original post stresses that this is not for those wishing to study physics, but is a purely technical assistant position “to aid Professor Hawking in those areas which he has difficulty due to his disability.” The salary is estimated to be around £25,000 (roughly $38,000 USD) annually, and will be funded by Cambridge University.
Part of me thinks this would be one of the coolest job ever, but that pay seems pretty low for the responsibilities involved.
I have read mr. hawking’s work for years. My mentor had ALS and i worked closely with him, outfitting his wheelchair, and giving him personal attention. he passed away at age 62.
I am of a Naval service background.
i am very interested.
Sincerely,
Matthew
