Okay. So surely that’s it, right? Surely no one in their sane, digital minds would give away more loot than that, yeah? Wrong! Dark Horse is also giving away t-shirts throughout the duration of NYCC. And they’re going to be “tagged”, giving you additional chances to win even more Dark Horse Digital store credit.
Dark Horse Unveils 2011 New York Comic Con Exclusive Spider-Man Syroco
In July at San Diego Comic-Con, the Marvel Syrocos program debuted. Well, Dark Horse has announced that they will be releasing an exclusive Spider-Man statue for this year’s New York Comic Con.
An extremely limited number of this Spider-Man statuette is being offered. They are destined to be a pretty hot item, retailing for a hefty $49.99, with a limit of four per customer.
“We wanted to evoke New York with our very special exclusive Spider-Man,” said Dark Horse’s VP of Product Development, David Scroggy. “Unfortunately, space constraints made a rooftop water tower or fire escape impossible, but we still hope fans can sense the city in this piece.”
The Marvel Syrocos program began last month with two alternating series: Classic Marvel Characters and the Fantastic Four.
If you’re at New York Comic Con this month, you can score yourself this exclusive at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 13.
BioWare and Dark Horse Unveil NYCC Mass Effect Exclusive
BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts, and Dark Horse Comics have announced a special edition of Mass Effect: Invasion #1, exclusive and available in a limited run at New York Comic Con 2011 from October 13th-16th. Mass Effect: Invasion #1 is the first installment in a series of comic books following Commander Shepard’s epic journey in Mass Effect 2. This special edition of Mass Effect: Invasion #1 is signed exclusively by Mass Effect Lead Writer Mac Walters and features brand new cover art designed by the Mass Effect team.
Written by Marc Walters and John Jackson Miller (Star Wars: Knight Errant), with art by Omar Francia (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2), The Mass Effect: Invasion series features a brand new, unique story. Mass Effect: Invasion focuses on Aria T’Loak, a key figure in the Mass Effect universe. T’Loak is the self-appointed queen of a seedy space station called Omega that caters to the galaxy’s underworld. T’Loak finds that she must defend her territory from the pro-human organization Cerberus and a terrifying new threat they plan to unleash. The first issue of Mass Effect: Invasion will be available this October.
And if you can’t get to NYCC, don’t fret. On October 19th you can grab your regular edition of Mass Effect: Invasion #1 at your local comic book store.

Tom Morello’s The Nightwatchman To Play Free Concert at NYCC
Tom Morello as The Nightwatchman, alongside the Freedom Fighter Orchestra will rock out on stage at the Javitts Center’s IGN Theater to smash a set for the NYCC Kick-Off Concert on Thursday, October 13th at 7:30 p.m.
On the 30th of August, the Grammy award-winning artist released World Wide Rebel Songs, and has been kicking ass and taking names across the country and world.
“The core of The Nightwatchman is dark matter,” says Tom Morello. “But at the heart of every struggle, there’s hope. So this is an album of rousing hopelessness — it’s part Johnny Cash and part Che Guevara, part beacon light and part arson fire.”
Tom Morello’s upcoming 12-issue comic book Orchid tells the story of a 16-year-old street walker in a dystopian future and hits stores on October 12th. Orchid #1 features a sweet variant cover by the well-known and influential street artist Shepard Fairey, and sports interior art by Scott Hepburn of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic fame.
When explaining Orchid as a character, Tom Morello says “Orchid is part Suicide Girl, part Joan of Arc, who becomes the Spartacus of Whores in a story that merges the epic scope of Lord of the Rings with the politics of street terrorism.”
The concert is free to all VIPs and four-day ticket holders. Headlined by DJ Z-Trip, seating will be extremely limited and, due to the size of the auditorium and the kick-ass-edness of the event, it will be first-come-first-served. However, Ultimate Access, Special Access, and Anime Access VIP ticket holders will be given preference and guaranteed entry first; then the early bird four-day ticket holders will be allowed in until the auditorium is crammed full. The legal fine print is that there is no guarantee every four-day ticket holder will even get in, so get there early.
Speaking of the event, DJ Z-Trip said, “I’m stoked and honored to be playing alongside Tom Morello at the New York Comic Con. He’s one of my favorite guitarists of all time, and I’ve always admired the level of consciousness he brings to the table. This show is gonna be great. Can’t wait to read his new comic too.”
Midtown Comics will be selling Orchid #1 exclusively at the Kick-Off Concert. Tom Morello is appearing courtesy of Midtown Comics, Dark Horse Comics, and New York Comic Con.
“The world is in flux,” Tom Morello says. “People are standing up and fighting for their rights around the globe. It’s an important juncture we’re at—is anyone going to stand up? The Nightwatchman will stand up, and this is the soundtrack for that struggle.”
Now let me get a little political on you all for a second (if politics is not your thing, feel free to stop reading now): In today’s day and age, with an environment of political chaos and turmoil around the world, The Nighwatchman and their voice of change is needed now more than ever. There are too many artists who are more concerned about the bling and the green to be bothered to stand for anything or challenge the status quo. Tom Morello and the messages behind World Wide Rebel Songs are a relevant tools for change in people’s minds that will hopefully spill into practical change within the social justice struggles of today.
But politics aside, if you can, get to the Kick-Off Concert and just have yourself a rocking good time!
Keep an eye on the Dark Horse blog for further announcements and updates on signings, in-booth events, green-screen photo ops, and so much more.
I’m exhausted. I need a nap…

That Spidey statue looks way better than the one at SDCC. Also, I’m glad to read that it sounds like Dark Horse will be giving out prints from their photo booth so I can add them to my collection of strange novelty convention pictures!

I hadnt realized the MySpace Dark Horse Peresents thing was still going on. Thats how I found Sugar Shock, which is one of my all time favorite little comics (You Calling Me A Viking?!?)
