House Rules 15: Exploring Nontraditional RPGs

Though we normally talk only about board games, occasionally an RPG will catch my eye. Recently, I’ve reviewed both Misspent Youth and Fiasco. They depart from the traditional GM-driven RPG and instead focus much more on a collaborative process. Misspent Youth is what might be called GM-lite, and Fiasco has no GM.

I explore both games, what sets them apart and the challenges of their departure from the norm, with my usual gaggle of gamers. This one is a bit longer than usual, with about 20 minutes devoted to each game.
