I loves me a good mashup.
When we love a character, we want more of them. And if we want it badly enough, we don’t wait for the creator of that character to give it to us. This is where fan art and fan fiction originates.
James Hance is a superbly gifted artist who knows how to speak to the geek. His mashups are superb. You’ve probably seen the Muppet-Fraggle-Firefly art that’s been circulating recently (Wembley as Wash – what could be more perfect?).
That is very far from all, however. His art covers a range of beloved characters, from such diverse places as Star Wars, Where the Wild Things Are, and The Wizard of Oz. It’s like looking at everything I’ve loved about popular culture in my lifetime.
