Heroclix: Captain America Preview (or How to Meet Supers and Imitate People)
Last time, Wizkids/NECA teased that the third Heroclix: Captain America preview would “pay a visit inside the sinister organization A.I.M. to sneak a peek at one of their most dangerous and versatile creations.” I speculated that it could be either M.O.D.O.K. or Super-Adaptoid.
Well, guess what? Wizkids/NECA is previewing both Adaptoid and Super-Adaptoid.
Originally created by A.I.M., Super-Adaptoid was programmed to replace or destroy Captain America. Super-Adaptoid can copy the powers, abilities, weapons, and look (even down to fingerprints) of any super-powered character that he encounters. Once captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., Super-Adaptoid was sprung by A.I.M. with the hopes of mass-producing its abilities. When the A.I.M. labs unexpectedly exploded, hundreds of thousands of Adaptoids were spawned from Super-Adaptoid. The explosion also woke up Super-Adaptoid, who ordered the new Adaptoids to take over the A.I.M. base.
So now we know who we’re previewing, let’s get into the Heroclix.
Adaptoid weighs in at only 30 points and its dial is packed with Stealth. Couple this with its Trading Places Special Power and against the right figure, you can pull them out of the safety of hindering terrain and take advantage of it yourself.
Adaptoid also has Toughness for the first half of its dial, and Shape Change down the entire dial helps add that small percentage of avoiding being attacked at all to represent Adaptoid taking the form of your enemies’ friend or something.
Also, being a Common, Adaptoid won’t be hard to get your hands on and chances are you’ll pull a few of these for your swarm-teaming pleasure.
Unlike Adaptoid’s stealthy approach, Super-Adaptoid prefers to come out, guns a-blazing with a nasty combination of Running Shot and the Power Template Special Power which enables him to use the standard attack power of any figure he finds himself within three squares of. But like Adpatoid, Super-Adaptoid has both Toughness and Shape Change as the primary defence for the first half of the dial.
The rest of Super-Adaptoid’s dial has the Kubik Powered Special Power that equips him with the Power Cosmic team ability and the giant damage symbol as well. Yowch! Super-Adaptoid’s attack and defence powers become more formidable as it gets Penetrating/Psychic Blast and Impervious followed by Invulnerability.
And if things aren’t tricky enough for your opponent, Super-Adaptoid’s Adaptoid Spawn Special Power gives the option of increasing Super-Adaptoid’s damage or that of any surrounding Adaptoid. So Super-Adaptoid can increase its damage by one for every Adaptoid within three squares of Super-Adaptoid. Or Super-Adaptoid can instead increase the damage value of every friendly Adaptoid within three squares of Super-Adaptiod. Nasty!
On top of all that painful Super-Adaptoid goodness, it has the Minions of Doom team ability that enables it to copy other friendly team abilities.
I’ll definitely be running a Super-Adaptoid and a handful of Adaptoid at some point. This is the kind of thematic team I like to use. Hopefully we’ll get some A.I.M. leadership in the set to add a little flavor too.
Wizkids/NECA will be giving us more previews soon, promising “brand new characters, it would be a Shame if you missed all the fun!”

Where does it say that super adaptoid pluses to his damage on his card for each adaptoid . It says modify for each adaptoid . so wouldent his damage valuechanged to however many adaptoids there are
