News: Power Grid wins Netherlands game of the year!
Power Grid, though originally published in 2004, made its debut in the Netherlands just recently. And, consequently, it has picked up the award for Netherlands Game of the Year! For those who haven’t played, Power Grid is an economic game where you first must purchase power plants (through an auction mechanism), then raw materials to fuel those plants (which become increasingly expensive as they are depleted), then finally city locations to power. Only after all that has been completed do you receive another payday and start again. It’s an exercise in management, planning, and expansion on a budget.
Power Grid beat out second place finisher Vasco da Gama and third place Tobago.
